Surgical Services at Noyes

surgery sceneSurgical Services are provided on two campuses within the Livingston Health System.  The hospital-based Operating Room (OR) and Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU) are located at Noyes Memorial Hospital in the Saunders Surgical Center in Dansville.  They operate throughout the day, Monday through Friday, with an on-call staff for emergencies during the overnight hours and on weekends.  The freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center is located at Livingston Health Services in Geneseo.  This unit performs "one-day" (outpatient) surgeries during daytime hours.

The facilities are equipped with advanced technological apparatus, which enhance the patient-centered focus of the surgical team.  They use the most current scientific knowledge and technical skill throughout every patient's experience.  The entire team cares for the patient every moment during the conscious and unconscious states.

Both Noyes Memorial Hospital and Livingston Health Services are 4-room facilities in which 4,000 to 6,000 procedures are performed each year, with 1-2,000 at Livingston Health Services and 3-4,000 at Noyes Memorial Hospital.

The Surgical Specialties that are provided include:

  • Ears, Nose and Throat
Some of the procedures that Noyes offers are tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy, placement of ear tubes, sinus surgery, head and neck cancer treatments, and surgeries to improve some hearing loss.
  • General Surgery
Noyes features a new Sentinel Node Detection Device, which aids in early cancer detection.  Also for General Surgery, Noyes can perform procedures related to the bowel, breast cancer, hernias, gallbladder diseases, lung cancer, and a full range of organs.
  • Gastrointestinal
This category of surgery is mostly for screenings.  Some examples of what Noyes provides are colonoscopies and gastroscopies.
  • Gynecology
This speciality offers a full range of female surgeries, included advanced laparoscopic, "minimally invasive" surgeries.
  • Ophthalmology
This speciality treats cases related to cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal disorders, making Noyes' Ophthalmology Surgery a full-service department.
  • Orthopedic
Orthopedic Surgery at Noyes features total joint replacements, hand surgeries to repair lacerations to tendons and nerves, and arthritis surgery.  Sports medicine is also offered; knee arthroscopies to repair injuries are the most common sports procedure performed at Noyes.
  • Podiatry
Noyes performs a full range of podiatric surgeries.
  • Urology
Noyes' Urology Department features a laser-enhanced stone removal procedure.  The laser disintegrates the stone to a fine sand, making this procedure much more painless.   Surgeries and diagnostic procedures include cystoscopies, ureteroscopies, cryoblation, prostrate surgery, cancer surgery, and kidney stones.
  • Vascular
Many people know that as we age, our arteries leading to our heart muscle may become clogged and may potentially lead to cardiac disease and heart attacks.  However, not many people are aware that clogged arteries leading to our extremities causes poor circulation and physical complications.  Noyes'  Vascular Surgeons perform extremity artery repairs--a procedure to create a bypass to improve circulation to the arms and legs. This speciality also features a carotid artery bypass procedure, which improves circulation to the brain, which helps prevent strokes.
