Cohocton American Legion Supports E.A.R.S. Lifeline

The Sons of the American Legion Post 805 in Cohocton continues to support seniors living throughout their service area by helping to keep them safe and secure at home.  Following their Third Annual Lifeline Golf Tournament held August 22nd at the Reservoir Creek Golf Course in Naples, NY, a donation of $4,054 was recently made to the E.A.R.S. Lifeline Program at Noyes Memorial Hospital.  This donation will be used to pay the monthly monitoring fees for over 22 Cohocton area Lifeline subscribers, as well as the one-time installation fee for all Veterans.  Additional funding was given to St. James Lifeline who also has subscribers in the Cohocton area.

E.A.R.S. Lifeline at Noyes Hospital has been providing medical alert services to seniors and the young disabled for 27 years and currently has over 740 subscribers living throughout the hospital’s service area.   Gloria Swain, Program Coordinator states, “Our goal is to help seniors age in place.  Living at home with the support of Lifeline helps subscribers feel safe in their home and their families also worry less.”  This medical alert service gives older adults and those with chronic medical conditions the security and confidence knowing they can get help any time of day or night by simply pushing their portable help button - a necklace, bracelet or watch.

Patty Piper, Director of Community Outreach Services at Noyes Hospital states, “In the past 27 years that the E.A.R.S. Lifeline Program has existed, I think the work the Cohocton American Legion does for their community is one of the most admirable efforts I’ve seen because their support directly benefits the seniors in their community.  We repeatedly hear how appreciative the Cohocton area subscribers are to have their Lifeline service covered.”

Along with the annual golf tournament, the 40 member American Legion manages other fund raising events throughout the year including Annual Breakfast and Fundraising Raffles.  They support other projects, including:  Cohocton Food Pantry, Cub Scouts, Little League, Youth Group, and the Vincent House.
