Hospitalist Program
Previous Page | Tell-A-Friend

In August 2009, Noyes Memorial Hospital began a Hospitalist program that will improve access to care for patients that need hospitalized and will assist in the recruitment of local primary care physicians.

What is a Hospitalist?

Hospitalists are physicians specially trained in the medical care of patients in the hospital.   They spend their work day in the hospital and do not run a traditional clinic practice.  This allows them to be more available to patients and families during hospitalization, and allows traditional primary care doctors to be more available to their patients in the clinic.

Hospitalist FAQs

Why am I being treated by the Hospitalist and where is my doctor?

  • Your doctor has asked the Hospitalist group to see you while you are at Noyes Memorial Hospital
  • Your doctor may not have admitting privileges at Noyes Memorial Hospital
  • You may not have a primary care physician in the area, or perhaps

you do not have a physician

In these cases, the Hospitalist group will coordinate the medical care you receive in the hospital with your doctor and other specialists who may be part of your hospital stay. This may include other physicians, specialists, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory, occupational and physical therapists, dieticians, case managers, and social workers.

Will my doctor be kept informed?

Absolutely! Your doctor will be kept fully informed of your medical progress and test results from your hospital stay. Once you are discharged from the hospital, we will make sure that your doctor has all the necessary information to provide you with follow-up care so you can complete the healing process.

What are the advantages to Hospitalists?

Because Hospitalists work primarily in the hospital setting, they have  enhanced knowledge of hospital procedures and greater familiarity with hospital staff in all departments. Their continuous monitoring of your care enables Hospitalists to respond to diagnostic and clinical information as it becomes available and prescribe treatment, arrange consultations with specialists, or order additional tests quickly.

How do I, or a member of my family, speak to a Hospitalist at Noyes Memorial Hospital?

Simply ask your nurse to have someone from the Hospitalist team paged.

The Hospitalists at Noyes Memorial Hospital are readily

available to meet your needs and answer questions

that you or your family may have.

We look forward to serving you and your family  throughout your hospital experience at Noyes Memorial Hospital.
