When visiting either facility, please follow any required pre-exam preparations found on the back of the requisition you received from your doctor. This will ensure prompt service without the risk of having your procedure rescheduled.
Noyes Diagnostic Imaging Services
General X-ray General X-ray procedures such as Chest x-rays for lung diseases, Extremity (arms & legs) and Spine exams for fractures, osteoporosis, arthritis, and other bone pathologies are offered at both facilities. Portable work in the OR, patient’s room and ER can also be performed with state-of-the-art equipment designed to meet the emergency needs of patients.
Specialized X-ray Procedures such as Barium Enemas for colon diseases, Upper GI series and Esophagrams for gastroesophageal reflux are offered at Noyes Hospital using a Fluoroscope (x-ray) machine. This machine provides real time x-ray images allowing the observation of the contrast material.
16 Slice Spiral CTScan A CT (computed Tomography) scan, often called CATScan is a painless examination that gives the physician an unobstructed view of organs and structures that cannot be seen clearly on conventional x-ray. The CT scan combines a sophisticated x-ray system with a high-speed computer to produce a precise picture of the body, allowing the physician to see tissue and bone structures in fine detail.
Some procedures require oral contrast 1-hour prior to the exam. This aids in the visualization of the internal organs. Some procedures also require an iodinated contrast given intravenously to enhance the vascular structures. Your technologist will explain all procedures thoroughly.
Spiral CT exams are performed at Noyes Hospital only.
Nuclear Medicine Nuclear Medicine procedures are performed using a state-of-the-art Gamma Camera combined with a radioactive tracer that is ingested by mouth or received by intravenous injection. The tracer goes to the target organ and is imaged with the camera. Bone Scans are performed using Nuclear Medicine. During a bone scan, the tracer is taken up by the bones and shows areas of bone activity such as fractures, arthritis, tumor and metastatic disease, bone infections (osteomyelitis) and other bone pathologies. There is usually a 2-hour delay between the time of injection and the scan time.
Other procedures include Lung Scan for blood clots (pulmonary embolism), Hepatobiliary Scans for Gallbladder disease, and Cardiolite/Thallium Stress tests for Coronary Artery Disease and other heart diseases.
Nuclear Medicine tests are performed at Noyes Hospital only.
Ultrasound The Noyes Ultrasound Department is newly certified by the American Institute for Ultrasound Medicine, recognized for quality in care from registration, to exam, to the radiologists' reads of exams. Ultrasound produces a two dimensional real time image by bouncing sound waves off internal organs. During the exam, an Ultrasound probe is placed in direct contact with the patient’s skin using a gel as lubricant. The procedure is noninvasive and does not use any type of needles or tubes. Noyes utilizes a state-of-the-art Ultrasound machine called a SonoCT which produces images containing diagnostic information unattainable by conventional Ultrasound. These detailed results improve visualization of borders, interfaces, and irregular structures, allowing for increased precision and confidence in making a diagnosis. It also improves exam consistency across a wide variety of patients.
Bone Densitometry Bone Densitometry is a painless and fairly quick procedure to determine bone density loss or growth. There is minimal exposure to radiation, it is relatively inexpensive, and is usually covered by responsible insurance carriers. The results are accurate, meaningful and reproducible. During menopause, women experience reduction in the production of estrogen, which in turn can decrease bone density. Loss of bone density can lead to bone fractures and osteoporosis. This procedure is often performed on postmenopausal women.
Procedures offered at Noyes Hospital and Livingston Health Services include, Abdominal Ultrasound, which looks at gallstones, liver, spleen and pancreas diseases, and aortic aneurysm size; Kidney Ultrasounds for kidney stones; Carotid Ultrasounds for percentage of stenosis.
Women’s Services
Mammography The American Cancer Society recommends that women over the age of 40 have routine, annual mammograms to screen for early detection of breast diseases. To accommodate women in the Noyes service area, we currently offer mammography services at Noyes Hospital in Dansville, and at Livingston Health Services in Geneseo.
The technicians at both locations are sensitive to women’s needs and will make this procedure as comfortable as possible for you. However, a mammogram is an x-ray of the breast taken after the breast has been compressed, and most patients experience some minor discomfort during the procedure. It is routine for the technician to take two x-rays of the breast representing different views of the breast tissue. On occasion, the procedure can sometimes require additional views and/or Breast Ultrasounds.
A highly trained and licensed Radiologist will interpret your mammograms and the findings will be forwarded to your physician within 24-48 hours. In compliance with FDA regulations, the results of your exam will be forwarded directly to you within 30 days of the exam.
Obstetrical Ultrasound Obstetrical Ultrasounds determine gestational age and fetal position. The tests are performed by technicians who understand the anxiety and uncertainty that you may be feeling during pregnancy. We make every effort to make this test comfortable and special for you. For the best possible results, we ask that expectant mothers initially attend this exam alone while the technician is locating and examining the fetus. Once the examination is completed, the mother may invite appropriate family members to view the Ultrasound image on the screen.
